Appalachian Trail |
AT Day Hikes |
|
Each year hundreds of AT thru hikers visit the Dutch Haus. About
800 miles from Springer Mountain, Georgia and 1,400 miles from
Katahdin, Maine, we feed, shelter, and encourage those making the
five to six month journey. We are located less than three miles
from the Trail. From day hikes, to slack packing, to section
hikers we can accommodate your needs and help you plan your trip,
if needed. |
Fish Hatchery Road to the Tye River (10 miles)
Not only pass through the Priest, the highest mountain in the
area, but scramble up Spy Rock for a 360 degree view, one of the
best in the area. |
|
AT Thru Hikers Note
We can arrange shuttles, provide you with slack packing options
from the James River to Rockfish Gap, service as your mail drop,
provide you with laundry service and internet connection. We
also provide backpackers with free lunches from May 1 through
June 30 AT Thru

Reeds Gap to the Tye River (10 miles)
Starting at Reeds Gap near Wintergreen, climb the backside of
Three Ridges, the second highest mountain in the area. Cross the
Mar Har Trail, Harpers Creek and then descend to the Tye River for
an afternoon swim. |
|
Crabtree Falls Trail The new lower parking area is now open.
We can drop you off at the bottom of the falls and you can take the
Crabtree Falls Trail combined with the Appalachian Trail and walk back to
the Dutch Haus (about 10 miles). The upper parking area is still open, but
a high clearance vehicle is required. |
Saint Mary's Wilderness Area The trailhead on the Blue Ridge Parkway is only five miles from the Dutch
Haus and provides you with several hiking options, which are rarely
crowded. |
Salt Log Gap to Fish Hatchery Road (8 miles)
Enjoy one of the mildest section of the Appalachian Trail you will
ever encounter. Have lunch at the Seeley Shelter and walk back
to the Dutch Haus. |
